A coil is a small T shaped device that is used to prevent pregnancy. It is inserted into the womb by your doctor. Copper coils last 5 or 10 years depending on device. The Mirena coil lasts 5 years and is also used to treat heavy periods. Other hormonal coils last 3 or 5 years depending on the device.
